| Community Organizing Intern |
POSITION AVAILABLE: January 2010 REPORTS TO: Community Organizer HOURS: 20-24 hours per week, flexible scheduling Monday-Friday between 10am and 6pm Possible nights and weekends (If working a night or weekend, you can take back the time by altering the M-F schedule). COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice New York will help secure academic credit if applicable. SUMMARY: NARAL Pro-Choice New York’s advocacy department works on the political, legislative and community levels to protect safe, legal abortion and to expand the full range of reproductive rights for all women. The Community Organizing intern will work to increase our base of volunteers and activists and will support them to engage in our efforts to pass a pro-choice legislation at the state level. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Work with Organizer to outreach to individuals, organizations, and communities throughout New York State. The purpose of this outreach will be to increase volunteer/activist participation in NARAL Pro-Choice New York’s efforts to pass pro-choice legislation on the state and city level during the 2010 legislative session. Current outreach methods include street outreach, phone banking, attending events, speaking at college and allied organization’s events, disseminating flyers and other materials, reaching out to colleges and organizations via phone and mail and posting actions and events on-line.
- Participate in all legislative advocacy events and actions. Actions may include phone banking, petition collection, lobbying elected officials and letter writing.
- Train and supervise NARAL volunteers/activists to participate in all legislative advocacy events and actions described above.
- Maintain volunteer database.
QUALIFICATIONS: - A strong commitment to working for reproductive rights and social justice
- Interest in legislative advocacy, outreach and volunteer/activist coordination
- Willingness to travel throughout New York State and possibly work nights and/or weekends
- Outgoing personality and strong communication skills
- Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills MS Office computer skills, particularly Excel

| Political Intern |
POSITION AVAILABLE: January 2010 REPORTS TO: Political Director HOURS: 10-15 hours per week, flexible scheduling Monday-Friday between 10am and 6pm COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice New York will help secure academic credit if applicable. SUMMARY: NARAL Pro-Choice New York’s advocacy department works on the political, legislative and community levels to protect safe, legal abortion and to expand the full range of reproductive rights for all women. The Political Intern will primarily provide support around our efforts to prepare for the fall 2010 election. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Work with Political Director to prepare for the 2010 state- and federal-level elections in New York.
- Research information on state and federal candidates.
- Facilitate process of sending out candidate questionnaires, then contacting campaigns to follow up.
- Maintain Excel database of information.
- Assist staff in developing candidate education materials, including research and writing.
- Help Community Organizer with ongoing advocacy and organizing activities, as necessary.

| Youth Program Intern |
POSITION AVAILABLE: December 2009 or January 2010 REPORTS TO: Youth Program Coordinator HOURS: Flexible, at least 12 hours per week – 1-6 Tuesdays and Thursdays plus two additional hours any time. COMPENSATION: This position is unpaid. National Institute for Reproductive Health will help secure academic credit if applicable. SUMMARY: The Teen Outreach Reproductive CHallenge (TORCH) is a peer education program which trains youth to give workshops and presentations throughout New York City to their peers and healthcare providers on adolescent reproductive health/rights. TORCH is committed to empowering youth, leadership development, and engaging youth as an active part of the Pro-Choice movement. We strive to do this by teaching youth issues related to reproductive health/rights and then offering opportunities for pro-choice activism. We have three projects specifically designed to engage youth: 1. The Peer Educator Project 2. The Adolescent Health Care Communication Project 3. The Adolescent Standardized Patient Project PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Interns provide hands-on assistance to a diverse and dynamic group of high school students from all five boroughs of New York City who are involved in this nationally recognized program. - Assist with all aspects of outreach, supervision and administration of TORCH’s youth projects.
- Help develop and organize resource materials for youth.
- Track outreach efforts and their results.
- Assist TORCH Program staff with other tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS: - An understanding and enjoyment of adolescents
- Basic computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Outgoing personality, willingness to work intimately with teens, and management skills
- Strong personal commitment to adolescents and reproductive health/rights issues

QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience with research and access to journal database(s)
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet research
- Must be organized and detail-oriented
- Strong personal commitment to reproductive health
