HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE It is important for you to act early. As a matter of fact, there are many more choices available to you if you act early. You may even be able (right now) to prevent yourself from becoming pregnant. Emergency contraception is a form of birth control that, when taken within 120 hours after unprotected sex, can prevent pregnancy. It is only effective if taken within five days of unprotected sex, though, and the sooner within those five days that you take emergency contraception the more likely you are to prevent a pregnancy. If this is your situation, You may come to this resource because you know you are already pregnant and do not want to continue your pregnancy. If you choose to end your pregnancy, we have gathered for you an extensive list of abortion providers in New York State. Several New York State abortion providers can offer you the earliest procedures available, including medical abortion. We have noted when a provider offers such services. As with all decisions related to an unplanned pregnancy, it is important for you to act early if you decide to have an abortion procedure. You may, instead, choose to continue your pregnancy. Click here for resources on selecting a doctor or other provider to care for you during your pregnancy and birth. If you choose to continue your pregnancy but are not able to parent, click here for information about adoption, a bill of rights for birth parents, and a list of New York State adoption agencies that handle private adoptions. We have included agencies that vow to respect your right to choose what is best for you, even if after investigating this option you choose another. Your other choice is parenthood. Click here for resources providing support networks that can help if you choose to become a parent. With this Book of Choices we have tried to assemble resources that will provide you with caring, unbiased services in our state. There are many groups today working to take away your right to all the choices currently available. Many try to deceive you into making a choice they believe is best. This is your choice. And this is what we mean by being pro-choice: we respect your right to choose for yourself and we work to protect this right. We have already witnessed in this country the horrors of a world without choice and know of the injury and death resulting from a lack of choice for women in many other nations today. We are committed, on your behalf, never to return there again. |
