This year’s We Are Pro-Choice New York: Albany Day of Action was a huge success! Thanks to the huge showing of pro-choice New Yorkers who joined us in Albany for a day filled with educational workshops and meetings with legislators. We were excited to see so many pro-choice elected officials during the morning welcome session – Democrats and Republicans – ready and willing to fight to make New York a leader in reproductive health, starting with passage of the Reproductive Health Act.

We were in Albany on the first day after the legislative break to emphasize that the Reproductive Health Act must be a priority in the second half of the legislative session.

The Reproductive Health Act guarantees a woman’s right to make her own personal, private health-care decisions by protecting her right to choose or refuse contraception or abortion. In particular, it ensures that a woman can get the safe, legal abortion care she needs right here in New York, especially if her health is endangered.

 

In visits with dozens of legislators on Tuesday, we emphasized that while our state may have led the nation as one of the first to recognize a woman’s right to choose, it is crucial to pass the Reproductive Health Act now so that New York State continues to protect women’s reproductive rights as the war on women rages across the country.
