Take Action Against the Supreme Court's Federal Abortion Ban
Supreme Court Marks Setback for Women's Health and Privacy
By upholding the Federal Abortion Ban in its entirety, the Supreme Court has not only supported an abortion ban with no exception for a woman's health, it has given the green light to the anti-choice movement's plan to outlaw abortion entirely.
In her dissenting opinion, pro-choice Justice Ginsberg, who called the majority opinion "alarming", writes:
"...[T]he Act and the Court's defense of it cannot be understood as anything other than an effort to chip away at a right declared again and again by this Court." Here's what you should know about this ruling:
For the first time since Roe, this ban has no exception for the health of the woman.
Here are 4 ways to take action against this anti-choice legislation that puts women's health in jeopardy:
1. Support the Freedom of Choice Act. Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), to secure the right to choose by establishing a federal law guaranteeing reproductive freedom for future generations of American women.
2. Send a letter to the editor. Letters to the editors of local, state and national papers can help shape opinion and educate people about an issue. If you'd like some tips, contact djohnson@prochoiceny.org.
3. Spread the word. Download our petition and information sheet to help educate your friends about the Federal Abortion Ban and the Freedom of Choice Act.
4. See how real women are affected. Read the story of a woman whose health would have been in danger under the Federal Abortion Ban. Then, share this story with your friends.
If you believe that women and their doctors should never be forced into making difficult, personal, medical decisions based on extremist politics - then you must stand up and fight back. Take action today.
