Support the Breastfeeding Bill of Rights
The health benefits of breastfeeding are considerable—fewer hospital stays for breastfed children, fewer food allergies, and a lower risk for sudden infant death syndrome, asthma, and obesity.
The absolute right for all New York women to be informed about the benefits of breastfeeding could be just a day away!
The Breastfeeding Bill of Rights (S. 1674) will ensure that women have the information necessary to make an informed decision about whether to breastfeed. This bill would require public postings in maternal healthcare facilities, nurseries, maternity floors and post-delivery recovery rooms guaranteeing a women’s right to breastfeed.
The Breastfeeding Bill of Rights was unanimously passed in the Assembly but was held up in the Senate Health Committee.
The 2008 legislative session is currently on break for the summer, but you can still let Health Committee Chair Senator Kemp Hannon know that you want the Breastfeeding Bill of Rights (S. 1674) to be sent to the Senate floor for a vote next year.
