2012 Endorsements
2012 United States Senate Endorsement
On June 27, NARAL Pro-Choice New York announced its endorsement of Kirsten Gillibrand for the U.S. Senate.
Senator Gillibrand is a strong champion for both reproductive rights and women's health. The Senator will be facing anti-choice extremist Wendy Long in the general election. Long has voiced support for defunding Planned Parenthood and for the approval of the Blunt Amendment - which would have allowed employers to block access to affordable contraception. Senator Gillibrand, on the other hand, has worked tirelessly to ensure women maintain their right to choose - her leadership in the Senate is vital!

2012 State Senate Endorsements
On June 22, NARAL Pro-Choice New York announced its first round of 2012 state Senate endorsements. We are proud to endorse George Latimer, Justin Wagner and Andrew Gounardes.
George Latimer (Senate District 37 – Westchester) George Latimer has worked to advance a reproductive health and rights agenda in the State Assembly since 2004 – sponsoring the Reproductive Health Act and voting to ensure women have access to emergency contraception. He is now running in an open seat that we must fight to keep in the pro-choice column.
Justin Wagner (Senate District 40 – Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess) Justin Wagner will be taking on incumbent Senator Greg Ball – poster-boy for the anti-choice movement in New York State. Ball has a 100% percent anti-choice voting record, opposes the Reproductive Health Act, and was the headline speaker for an anti-choice lobby day in Albany. Justin made his mark on behalf of reproductive health and rights, penning a column in support of passing the Reproductive Health Act earlier this year.
Andrew Gounardes (Senate District 22 – Brooklyn) Andrew Gounardes is a Brooklyn native seeking to unseat Senator Martin Golden, the only anti-choice State Senator from Brooklyn. As Andrew put it, "As I knock on doors throughout the district, I keep hearing the same thing from women: Marty Golden doesn't care about the issues that concern them most. I want to state clearly, I care about women's issues and I will fight for them in Albany.”
Over the next few months, we will continue rolling out NARAL Pro-Choice New York’s 2012 endorsed candidates – staunch allies who we need to keep fighting for us and new friends who will help turn the tide towards pro-choice change.
