NARAL Pro-Choice New York Statement on Mitt Romney Visit to New York
New York – Today at 7PM, Mitt Romney will appear at a high-dollar fundraiser for his presidential campaign, organized by Donald Trump, the staunchly anti-choice millionaire and former presidential candidate, at Manhattan’s Pierre Hotel.
"Mitt Romney has demonstrated time and again that he is out of touch with America’s –and New Yorkers’ – pro-choice values and that he is willing to turn his back on the women who most need timely, affordable access to basic health care –including contraception,” said Andrea Miller, President of NARAL Pro-Choice New York.
Miller continued, "As Governor of Massachusetts, Romney vetoed a bill to ensure that rape and incest survivors visiting hospital ERs receive compassionate care, including information about and access to emergency contraception to help them to prevent pregnancy after their sexual assaults. On the presidential campaign trail, he has vowed to defund Planned Parenthood, eliminate our country's family-planning program (Title X), and eliminate President Obama’s policy ensuring that women can get affordable access to contraception – without having to ask their bosses for permission.
"Ironically, Romney’s visit coincides with the very day that the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to announce its decision on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.
"New Yorkers are not fooled by ‘multiple choice Mitt,’ who has repeatedly changed his tune on choice and women’s access to health care. We’ll be sure to let him know that when he arrives at the Pierre, and to keep that drumbeat going right up until the election, so that New Yorkers know the truth about his extreme record and anti-choice views.”
