"The New York State Assembly today reaffirmed its bold and courageous commitment to improving the lives of New York’s 10 million women by once again passing the 10-point Women’s Equality Act.
"During the 2013 legislative session, the Assembly built upon its progressive legacy by passing the full 10-point Women’s Equality Act, exhibiting what true leadership looks like. The Senate leadership, however, would not consider the full 10-point bill, refusing to consider the reproductive health provision, which will codify the protections of Roe v. Wade in New York State Law.
"Today’s passage underscored the belief – widely held among New Yorkers and put into action by the Assembly – that women in New York deserve nothing less than full equality. That necessarily includes the right to make personal decisions about our reproductive health care.
"The Senate now has the opportunity to take up the Women’s Equality Act in its entirety. We strongly encourage the Senate to heed the needs of New York women and the wishes of the voting public, and follow the Assembly’s lead in passing the full 10-point Women’s Equality Act without delay.”
