Push to ban federal cash for abortion

Abstract: Abortion coverage is under attack by a bipartisan group of House members that is aiming to prevent any federal funds in the long-awaited healthcare reform bill to be used for abortions. During a markup of the healthcare reform bill in the House Energy and Commerce Committee this week, Rep. Joe Pitts (R-Pa.) said he will press for language that explicitly bans the use of taxpayer money for abortions in order to be sure abortion is not covered as part of the minimum benefits provided under the healthcare plans.
