In Memoriam: Dr. William K. Raushbaum (1926-2005)
On Monday, May 2nd, the pro-choice movement lost one of its stalwart heroes: Dr. William K. Rashbaum.
Dr. Rashbaum provided abortion care to women, and girls, who were in the most precarious of circumstances. He offered refuge to women from across the country who traveled to him because they had no doctor trained, or willing, to care for them. He served all of his patients, regardless of their ability to pay, with his unique charm, candor, feistiness and skill.
Dr. Rashbaum trained countless physicians in the most complex of procedures, ensuring that future generations of physicians would be able to offer women safe abortion services. He fought the hardest, and most important, battles within this unending American conflict. His legacy is great.
Dr. Rashbaum was the truest of champions for women and he will be dearly missed.
