Governor Pataki Vetoes EC Access
NARAL PRO-CHOICE NEW YORK EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REACTS TO GOVERNOR PATAKI’S EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION BILL VETO, A “FLIP-FLOP OF THE HIGHEST ORDER”
August 4, 2005 Contacts: Bob Jaffe: (917) 969-3545 Mary Alice Carr: 646-326-4238
Kelli Conlin, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice New York stated:
Governor Pataki has consistently opposed restrictions on choice and his decision to veto this bill represents a flip-flop of the highest order. While I am not surprised by his decision, I am disappointed: The Governor has placed his own political ambitions above the lives and health of New York women. He has chosen politics over principles, leaving behind ten years of expanding choice in New York to pander to right-wing special interests.
We plan on holding him accountable for his actions, and letting Iowa and New Hampshire know what we have recently learned: Governor Pataki is a flip-flopper, willing to compromise his ideals and integrity for his own ambitions.
