CONTACT: Samantha Levine, 917-488-0075 STATEMENT FROM NARAL PRO-CHOICE NEW YORK ON HEALTH CENTER DELAY OVER BIRTH CONTROL NARAL Pro-Choice New York is extremely concerned that the planned urgent-care health care center at the site of the former St. Vincent's Hospital is being stalled by Catholic opposition to birth control. Birth control is safe, legal and used by 99% of sexually active women – including more than 95% of Catholics. It is irresponsible that those who seek to criminalize abortion also seek to limit access to the best means of reducing unintended pregnancy: contraception. We hope that common sense prevails and that progress on the urgent care center moves forward, providing increased access to health care – including reproductive health care – to the men and women of New York City.
